About Barry County

Barry County, home to more than 35,000 people, is situated in far southwest Missouri, placing us in the heart of Ozark Mountain Country. The topography ranges from flat prairie-like farmland, to steep and rough hill country. The diverse landscape gives way to a diverse economy.

There are several industrial operations located in Barry County. Agriculture also plays a vital roll, led by poultry operations and beef cattle farms.

Tourism is another aspect of the Barry County economy, thanks to Roaring River State Park and Table Rock Lake, one of the premier fishing destinations in the United States. Roaring River State Park is home to the Roaring River Hatchery and Trout Park operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation. The hatchery produces and stocks more than 250,000 rainbow trout each year with help from the Roaring River Spring, which produces an average of 20 million gallons of water daily. In addition to having an economic base, Barry County is has two hospitals, Cox Monett Hospital and St John's Hospital-Cassville. There are several physicians offering both family practice and specialized medical treatment in clinics at Monett, Cassville and Shell Knob.

Education is also important in Barry County, which has six state accredited school districts. The Crowder College-Watley Center also allows for further education.

We are in close proximity to Springfield-Branson Regional Airport in Springfield, MO and Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Bentonville, AR., making business and recreational travel easily accessible.
